Sportsman Spotlight: Carter Vanden Heuvel
Carter Vanden Heuvel is a third generation short course racer from Appleton, Wisconsin and he drives the #277 Mod Kart. Carter follows in the footsteps of his grandfather Dan, father Dan Jr., and uncle Mikey and was a member of the original group of Short Course Kart racers when the class was introduced in 2013.
The 2014 season saw the Short Course Karts compete for a full-season Sportsman championship for the first time with Carter winning the inaugural points championship, joining his grandfather and uncle as champions of the sport. To top off the season, Carter also won the Saturday race at Fall Crandon to become the first ever Short Course Kart World Champion. 2015 and 2016 each saw Vanden Heuvel score race victories but come up short in the points championship both seasons to future Pro SxS star Owen VanEperen.
Vanden Heuvel went on hiatus from off-road racing after the 2016 season, returning for 2023 in a Mod Kart owned by Jake Vande Voort. Carter will hope to knock off the rust quickly and return to the top of an off-road podium for the first time in 7 years.
